I heard an unfamiliar racket outside on Sunday evening and peered out my window. The noise came from a snow plow! Spotting a snow plow can be a rare sight for a Texas guy, and I curiously watched the driver displace at least 15 inches on snow that had fallen during the day.

The next morning, I was pleased to see that the plow had done some decent work, clearing a path for those neighbors who had to get to work. Looking at the plowed path reminded me of Jesus’ very helpful teaching about himself: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6, NIV). This means that Jesus is the only one who can clear the hindrances which keep us from safely traveling the path to the life God desires for us. In fact, Jesus himself is the actual path!

Those people who chose to follow Jesus on the path to life are called “disciples” in the Bible. A disciple is a student, learner, or apprentice of Jesus. At Journey, we encourage everyone to become a disciple of Jesus and to become strong in the practices that characterize a disciple such as prayer, Bible reading, and serving in the local church. We also encourage disciples to make more disciples! In fact, in just a few weeks after the New Year, new Journey Groups will develop. Journey Groups are intentional environments that help people pursue a life-changing relationship with God and authentic community with others.

You don’t have to wait until 2019 to get involved in a group! Explore already available groups here.

If you have interest in taking your discipleship journey to the next level, trust that Jesus has cleared the path for you! For more information, you can contact Jill Simmons or me, and we will be more than happy to give you direction about your discipleship journey and connecting with a group.
