How are you being fake? What hypocrisy do you want to let go of?
In Journey Church’s “My Life’s a Mess” series, people who were a part of the in person service
last Sunday placed in trash cans cards on which they’d written the hypocrisy they want to get rid of with God’s help. Here’s some of what they wrote:
I’m letting go of the hypocrisy . . .
Of acting like I am changing when I’m not
Of my being an enabler
Of my jealousy
Of my being critical of others
Of my gossiping
Of my fake friendships
Of my bitterness
Of judging my friends on their decisions
Of my not showing Jesus’ love to all
Of my speaking with curse words to “fit in”
Of my pride
Of my unforgiveness
Of my selfishness
Of my false responsibility
That I have things under control
When you are struggling with being hypocritical, remember the teaching of scripture:
You pretenders! You clean the outside of a cup and dish. But on the inside you are full of greed. You only want to satisfy yourselves. Matthew 23:25b (NIRV)
How can you think of saying, “Friend, let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,” when
you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! Luke 6:42a (NLT)
You hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people’s faces. You yourselves
do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. Matthew 23:13b (NIV)
