A number of women from Journey recently went on a weekend mission trip to Appalachia to
serve with one of our church’s mission partners, the Bland Ministry Center. Here are some of
their reflections about their experiences they shared soon after they returned home.
“I would have to say that this past weekend was humbling, and I realized that there is a need all around us. I’m so glad that I was able to attend to help the mission with organizing clothing, and I was able to help in the food warehouse. I was also very blessed to have been part of such an amazing team of women! Those ladies ROCK! We all worked together and got a lot accomplished! I would most definitely do it again and again! Journey is such a blessing in my life, and I am forever grateful to God for bringing me here!”
“It was my first mission trip. Although we all have different personalities, the fellowship was
wonderful. The work went by quickly, filled with great conversations and laughter. The
devotions were poignant. It was a wonderful experience—one that we all took to heart.”
“1) Loved the laughter and friendships I made with good God-loving people
2) Felt good knowing what we were doing helped others in need. The best way to find yourself
is to lose yourself in the service of others
3) The things in life I take for granted—clothes, food, shelter—are luxuries to some people.
Being in an atmosphere that helps people is always soul searching for me
4) My heart was full and my cup runneth over with gratitude and love for Journey and what the church does to help. It has made me a better person.”
“The trip made me see how little some families have. I'm grateful for my resources and ability to provide for my son even more.”
“I had a very blessed weekend serving at the Bland Ministry Center. We helped in the clothing
closet and food pantry to help them get ready for the coming season. It was very fulfilling
knowing we could assist them. We were also able to help clean and straighten up the volunteer house for other missionaries coming this year. The fellowship with my sisters in Christ was a blessing and very fulfilling too.”
“I felt so blessed that I could help others and make a positive impact on needy people's lives. I enjoyed spending time with the other Journey women that volunteered.”
