Water is basic human need, yet millions of people around the world still lack access to clean and safe drinking water. We call this the global water crisis, and it is a pressing issue that demands our attention and action. Though it would be easy to say the problem is too big for any of us to make a real impact, you all came together and raised not only awareness but also funds to combat this crisis. We are thrilled to share the incredible success of the 2023 Roanoke Valley Walk4Water. Together, we have raised over $6,000 to fight the global water crisis and bring clean water to the most vulnerable in our world.
To make change, the first step is always to identify the problem. The global water crisis is characterized by the lack of access to clean and safe drinking water for over 2 billion people. It leads to waterborne diseases, poor sanitation, and countless other challenges, particularly in underserved communities. On average 829,000 people die EVERY YEAR due to water-related illnesses. The gravity of this issue cannot be overstated, and it's crucial that we address it head-on.
Raising awareness is a pivotal step in solving any global issue. It is the spark that ignites the flames of change. Our recent Walk4Water was an incredible testament to the power of community and raising awareness. Participants from all walks of life came together to walk for a cause they deeply cared about. We were able to share about this great need on our local news station. Though the walk has passed we all can continue to spread awareness of the global water crisis by wearing our shirts, sharing stories, statistics and facts ensuring that more people understand the extent of the problem.
The Walk4Water was not just a symbolic gesture; it was a tangible way to make a difference. By participating, you showed your commitment to the cause. Walking long distances may have been physically demanding, but it pales in comparison to the daily struggles faced by those without access to clean water. Your willingness to act speaks volumes about your dedication to addressing this critical issue.
In addition to those who walked, we are deeply grateful for the generosity of those who gave. Sacrificial giving is a testament to the empathy and compassion that exists within our community. You recognized the urgency of the global water crisis and were willing through your hearts and wallets to make a real change. Your contributions, whether large or small, added up to a substantial amount that will go a long way in providing clean water to those in need.
We are delighted that our combined efforts have resulted in over $6,000 raised to fight the global water crisis. These funds will go directly to Water Mission, a nonprofit Christian engineering organization that builds safe water solutions in developing countries and disaster areas. Since 2001, Water Mission has served more than 8 million people in 60 countries. By coming alongside Water Mission, you are part of the solution. Through you, Water Mission will be able to impact the lives of men, women, and children who currently lack access to safe water.
Water Mission is a charity you can trust! Water Mission was awarded Charity Navigator’s highest, four-star rating for the 17th consecutive year. The rating was achieved with a 100% perfect score! Charity Navigator is America’s largest independent charity evaluator, and the four-star rating is earned by only 1% of all charities rated by the organization. This distinction reflects Water Mission’s commitment to accountability and transparency.
In a matter of weeks, we accomplished something remarkable. We identified the problem, spread awareness, walked to make a difference, and sacrificially given our finances to combat the global water crisis. This success is a reminder that positive change is possible when we come together as a global community.
To all the participants who walked and all the generous donors who contributed, we extend our heartfelt thanks. Your dedication to the cause of clean water has made a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals and communities. As we move forward, let us continue to stand united in our mission to ensure that everyone, regardless of where they live, has access to clean and safe drinking water. Together, we can make waves of change that ripple throughout the world.
